Teaching as a Calling

I am a teacher by vocation and have taught art as an Associate Professor at the San Francisco Art Institute and as a visiting artist at Creative Growth. I was a 6th-grade Humanities teacher and a sewing tutor. I've taught art and yoga to countless adults and children.

I love teaching and know it is an honor to work with people in an intimate and healing way.

I strive for integrity, warmth, understanding, a bit of necessary irreverence, and humor.

about me

I began studying yoga in 1992 and started teaching the following year.  My initial training was in Ashtanga yoga, which I formalized in Mysore, India, in 1994.

I continued my training with many remarkable teachers, including Ana Forrest, Tim Miller, John Smith, and Nicky and Eddie Modestini, culminating with TKV Desikachar. I am grateful to all my teachers and honor the gifts they have shared with me.

Upon returning, I opened my first yoga studio, Ahimsa, in the Mission District. After the birth of my children, I opened Loka Yoga in Oakland. Seven years later, I established a very intimate studio at my home called Vati. I have taught this practice over the course of 35 years and still wake up each morning a beginner.
